James Cooke PhD

Founder & Director

James Cooke PhD started the Inner Space Institute with the aim of helping greater numbers of people to explore consciousness in a way that is both grounded in science, and based in best-practices for exploring our inner world as safely as possible.

James trained as a neuroscientist after a spontaneous shift in consciousness as a teenager that him offered profound relief from burdensome, ruminative thought. He holds three degrees from Oxford University (a PhD and Masters in Neuroscience & a BA in Experimental Psychology).

He has conducted scientific research for over a decade at institutions such as Oxford University, University of California, Berkeley, University College London, Trinity College Dublin, and Riken Brain Sciences Institute in Tokyo.

James is the author of The Dawn of Mind: How Matter Became Conscious and Alive (coming December 2024), which synthesizes science and contemplative insight to offer a radical solution to the Hard Problem of Consciousness and the question of our place in existence.

About

The Inner Space Institute for Nondual Naturalism is a center for education and participation in topics at the intersection of science & spirituality.

Nondual Naturalism is a worldview that synthesises science and contemplative insight.  It is centred around the recognition that we are not separate from nature and are fundamentally at home in existence.

We are here to help you engage in consciousness exploration in a way that is scientifically grounded.
